The Pirna Summer of Sculpture 2024 - Positioning. Attitude.
5.05. - 29.09.2024
Every year, from May to September, an art exhibition is organised at Sonnenstein Castle high above the city of Pirna, which may very well be unique. The bastions are located under Sonnenstein Castle, which today is home to the District Office of the Sächsische Schweiz-Osterzgebirge (Saxon Switzerland-Eastern Ore Mountains region). The massive walls of the fortifications of the former Sonnenstein fortress can be seen from afar and literally nestle against the rock formation that watches over the historic old town of Pirna. The interplay of the colossal forms of the defensive architecture and the figurative art produces an effect of alluring symbiosis of these seemingly contradictory elements.
The Pirna Summer of Sculpture 2024 is embarking on its second decade with figures, installations and events. The theme of this year’s exhibition, curated by Pirna‘s culture prize winner Christiane Stoebe, is: “Positioning. Attitude”. The new exhibition features sculpture from Germany and the Czech Republic and encourages us to adopt an attitude, a position. An attitude towards yourself, towards the “you” or a position on certain topics or events in history or in our time.
An exhibition catalogue is also available.
